FREE 2017 Young Women Theme Printables

It's been awhile since I have created anything for young womens, but when I saw the new theme for 2017 I just had to create some cute binder covers and posters! In case you missed it, the 2017 mutual theme was announced here!
I am SO excited to study and ponder the new theme which is based off the scripture from James 1:5,
"IF ANY OF YOU LACK WISDOM, LET HIM ASK OF GOD"!

I decided to whip up some FREE printable binder covers and posters to celebrate the new 2017 young women theme. When I thought about the new theme and about "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask God" I couldn't help but think about when Joseph Smith read that same scripture, and decided to act upon his faith and pray. I love that the new theme encourages the youth to pray. I can't wait to read more about the 2017 theme and curriculum! " I decided to create some designs that are somewhat rustic and reminiscent of the sacred grove and that moment Joseph Smith decided to pray to Heavenly Father.

I hope you and your young women enjoy these FREE 2017 Theme Printables!

Diamonds in the Rough: Come Unto Christ and be Perfected in Him

Last night we held our New Beginnings program.
It turned out awesome and I thought I would share some of our ideas!

We decided on the theme,
"DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH;
COME UNTO CHRIST & BE PERFECTED IN HIM"

Honestly, it was such a special night - one I hope the girls will always remember.
The spirit was definitely present as we focused on the worth of each individual girl
and the blessings of participating in the young women program!

We decided to give the decorations a "tiffanys" feel - (to incorporate the "diamond" theme).
It turned out adorbs.
Super simple and SO cute! You can see all the details in the slew of pictures below!

As a party favor, we made each of the girls their own "Tiffany's" diamond ring box.
Inside we included a giant (plastic) diamond ring.
Attached to the box we included a copy of the the 2014 mutual theme!

Not only were the decorations super cute,
but I think we all went home feeling filled with the spirit and a great love from our Heavenly Father.

Some of the highlights from the program included:

"HOW TO MAKE A DIAMOND"
We were enlightened by our YW 1st counselor as she described the process of creating a diamond.
She related the analogy to the YW and  explained how they were each "diamonds in the rough".
She emphasized how through trials and faith in Jesus Christ
we become gradually more pure and more perfected - just like a diamond.

"THE SPARKLE & SHINE OF PERSONAL PROGRESS:
PARENTS & YW WORKING TOGETHER"
We know that in the church, families are central.
As YW leaders, we are there to support the families...never replace them!
We decided to learn together about how the personal progress experience can be enhanced as parents
and families get involved in helping their young woman work to achieve their goals.
(there is some great information on that here and here)

We decided to invite three different mothers of the YW in our ward to briefly talk.
They each described ways they had been able to get involved in the
pp program and discuss blessings they had seen as they helped their daughter.

It was so special and tender to hear the parent's perspective of the personal progress program.
Obviously, it is not always easy to work with our teenagers,
(one mother even mentioned that sometimes their night would end in tears -
and not always happy ones ha ha - isn't it the truth!?)
But each of the parents also expressed how it had blessed their relationships with their daughters
(and their families as a whole!) as they helped their young women strive to accomplish her goals.

It was a wonderful reminder that as the young women work towards completing their personal progress,
and they receive support from their parents, leaders, and families,
they can learn now how to strengthen their homes NOW.

"DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH"
Our YW president wrapped up the night by speaking to the young women about the
New Beginnings and Mutual theme for the year.

The spirit filled the room as she talked about the worth of each young woman.
She used the example of Peter and his growth as he learned from the Savior and compared that
to each young woman in the room.

It was very touching as she expressed her love for the girls as well as the Savior's love for them.
She described how we might each be a little "rough around the edges", but the Savior is there to help with that.
He is there to "perfect" us.

She also left a couple challenges with the girls.
First- To gain their own a testimony NOW.
Second - Once they have that testimony and understand their worth, INVITE OTHERS.

We have quite a few girls who do not attend young women,
and she stressed the importance of us working together as friends to help those other young women to "Come Unto Christ".

It was a great message and I think we all walked away feeling motivated to do just a little better!

Here are a few of the images we used for decorations during the night!

YW New Beginnings: Bloom Where You are Planted

I realize that I talk A LOT about the young women program...
but I just can't help it.
The young women that I serve consume my thoughts, my prayers, so why not my blog?
Last night we held our annual New Beginnings program.
It was a huge success and thought I would share just a few ideas from the program and decorations.

As we were contemplating different themes this year for the New Beginnings program,
the girls decided on the theme,
"Bloom Where You are Planted."
I know I have said this on a number of occasions,
but I am always so impressed with the youth and their creativity and submissiveness to the spirit.
This year, they REALLY wanted to select a theme that coordinated with the mutual theme
("Stand Ye in Holy Places").
They thought about how when you plant a flower in good ground,
that flower will not be moved, and will prosper and grow.
We decided to decorate the gym with pastel colors and LOTS and LOTS of flowers.
All in all, it turned out really cute.
Below are a few close-ups and details from the night.
I created these value tags to look like seed packets.
My mother-in-law had a bunch of darling, colorful vases that she used at her daughters wedding.
We used the vases to hold the value tags that I created.
They turned out really cute and were SUPER easy to make.

We used some old painted doors as a backdrop.
During the program, one of our young women created a slideshow
with cute pictures of the girls at different activities, youth conference, and girls camp.
It was a great addition to the program and way to highlight one of our young women's talents.
We also used a bunch of white frames to decorate the tables.
I created a few graphics to put in the frames that coordinated to the colors and theme.
In preparation for New Beginnings, we created a bunch of flowers during mutual.
The girls made a bunch of "fan" floors that we used to decorate the doors.
They were SUPER cute and added a lot of color to the backdrops.
They also created a bunch of tissue flowers to fill the various vases.

Another one of my favorite things that we did was created a close line with ribbon.
We pinned up a bunch of cute pictures of the girls.
For the refreshments, we served sugar cookies in the shape of flowers.
I took a brief moment during the program to share my love for the girls and share my testimony.
I mentioned how in order to "bloom" we must nourish our testimonies and relationship with the Savior.
I challenged the girls to "rise" and "stand"....
AND, not only be planted, but "BLOOM" spiritually through prayer,
studying the book of mormon, and staying close to the spirit.

We added some cute chinese lanterns to line the stage.
It added a lot of color and looked really fun under the projector.

Finally, one of my favorite things that the girls decided to do was introduce the upcoming young women.
Each girl was assigned to a "new beehive" and were responsible to learn about them.
During the program, the girls stood up with their "new beehive" and introduced them.
It was fun listening to the girls talk about each other and share fun facts.
After introducing their new friend,
the young women presented the upcoming beehive with a Gerber daisy and  welcome note.
Feel free to use and share any ideas and leave comments!
